Richard A. Rowland, age 77, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed
away Sunday, November 29, 2009 at 6:15pm at Heartland of Marion.
Richard was born on December 4, 1932 in Wyandot County, Ohio to Vernon D. and Zelda I. (Barber) Rowland both of whom are deceased. He married Margaret (Brooks) Rowland on November 29, 1952 in Angola, Indiana and she survives in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Surviving Richard are two sons: Dale (Judy) Rowland of Marion, Ohio, and Gary (Maggie) Rowland of Harpster, Ohio, a daughter: Marla Smith (Robert Leonard) of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, ten grandchildren: Matthew Rowland, Douglas (Jill) Rowland, Nickolas (Blair) Rowland, Jacob Rowland, Elizabeth Rowland, Darren (Kathy) Rowland, Vincent Rowland, Joseph Rowland, Catherine Smith, and Jacquelyn Smith, two great-grandchildren: Haley Rowland and Blake Rowland.
Richard is also survived by a sister: Bonnie (Tom) Jacobs of Wharton, Ohio.
Richard attended Mifflin Township schools and then graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1950. He worked at Wyandot County Highway Department for 16 years, Marion Correctional Institute for 14 years, and H. Dale Young for 20 years.
Richard was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Carey, Ohio, a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge #220, NRA, and a 4-H advisor for the Bronco Buster's 4-H Club. For hobbies Richard enjoyed doing anything outdoors such as: fishing, hunting, camping, riding horses, mowing, loved farming, and enjoyed playing fast pitch softball in his younger years.
Funeral Services for Richard A. Rowland will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Father J.R. Hadnagy OFM Cond officiating the services with burial following at the Rowland Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with a prayer service to be held at 4:30pm and an Eagles Memorial service to be held at 8:00pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Diabetes Foundation, or the Donors Choice in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
