Richard L. Mccombs

Richard L. McCombs, age 81, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on
Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2:01PM at the Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, Ohio.

Dick was born on January 6, 1932 in Wyandot County to Edward and Ruth (Hite) McCombs, both of whom are deceased. He married Ila Thew on November 19, 1950 and she survives.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Sandi (John) Best of Tiffin, Karen, (Nelson) Summit of Polk, Ohio and Nancy (Todd Ulrich, fiancAC.) Shackelford-McCombs of Upper Sandusky along with 9 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A brother Earl (Joy) McCombs of Galion also survives.

He was preceded in death by a son Ron and a daughter Carol and a brother Robert and a sister Mary.

Dick was a truck driver his entire life having driven last for Yellow Freight. Upon his retirement he also farmed.

For hobbies he enjoyed hunting and especially fishing and spending summers at Lake Erie with his wife Ila. He enjoyed watching westerns and sporting events, where he followed the Cowboys and Buckeyes. In his younger years, he played various sports such as slow pitch softball.

The greatest joy for Dick was his family, where he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Funeral services for Richard L. McCombs will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Tuesday, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
