Richard L. Hasting, age 90, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 6:17pm at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

He was born on September 12, 1920 in Lima, Ohio to Floyd and Alda (Spyker) Hasting, both of whom are deceased. Richard married Geraldine "Jerry" Beery on July 30, 1940 in Brevard, North Carolina and she died on September 3, 2004.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Sandra (Bernard) Niederkohr of Upper Sandusky, Linda (James) Thomas of Defiance and Debora (David) Hines of Upper Sandusky along with 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death as earlier mentioned by his parents, wife and also a granddaughter Brenda Lynn Niederkohr, 2 brothers, Harold and Doyle and a sister Betty Weller.

Richard retired after over 40 years with Westinghouse-AO Smith in Upper Sandusky as a industrial methods engineer. He was a graduate of Cridersville High School in 1938 and then went on to serve our country in the US. Army during WWII.

He was a member of the John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky and also 50-year plus member of the following Masonic bodies, Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM, McCutchen Chapter #96 R.A.M. Upper Sandusky Council #98, R&SM

He also was a member ofMarion Commandery #36 Knights Templar of Marion
Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, Aladdin Shrine Temple, Columbus, Warpole Chapter #366 OES, Upper Sandusky, were he was an officer for several years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post # 225 in Upper Sandusky, past board member of the American Cancer Society and Wyandot Senior Village and participated with Cross Over The Bridge and Heritage Festival Parade as a committee member.

Richard will be remember for his volunteerism with Murfield and the running of the Memorial Golf Tournament each year which donated its monies each year to TWIG along with his countless hours driving many cancer patients to and from doctor and treatment appointments. Because of all of his giving, Richard was recognized in 1993 as Citizen of the Year in Upper Sandusky.

For hobbies he enjoyed woodworking, golfing, bowling camping, following USHS sporting events and the Cleveland Indians and spending time with his children and grandchildren.


A Funeral Service Celebrating the Life of Richard L. Hasting will be held at 11:00am Monday, August 15 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Rick Snyder and Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.

Visitations will be held on Sunday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky where a Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 6:45pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Wyandot County Home Activities Fund or a Charity of the Donors Choice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
