Rhetta Jane Bennett, age 79, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 4:20am at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.
Rhetta was born on February 22, 1934 in Vanceburg, Kentucky to Ernest and Dorothy (Pell) Rhoden, both of whom are deceased. She married Glenn B. "Popeye" Bennett on March 30, 1957 in Trinity United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky, and he passed away on February 25, 1999.
She is survived by 5 children Glenda (Paul) Bennett-Walsh of Toledo, Ohio, Natalie "Jobie" (Robert) Elwood of Dunkirk, Kerry (Luis) Viso of McDonough, Georgia, Mitchell (Elaine) Bennett of Bloomdale, and Julie (Dan Ward) Bennett of Wharton. Along with 8 grandchildren, Jennifer (Dwayne) Fry, Fernando, Daniel and Gabriel Viso, Shaina and Seth Miller, Maggie (William) Elwood-Dory and Laura Walsh.
Rhetta is survived by a brother, Darrell (Pat) Rhoden of Palmdale, California, and 2 sisters, Rosalind Swankhouse of Upper Sandusky, and Betty Reed of Bluffton and a brother in law, Horst Greilich of Upper Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her 4 sisters, Molly Forry, Paula Rhoden, Diana Kelbley and Susie Greilich.
Rhetta was a homemaker and also worked at the Quaker Oats as a storeroom coordinator, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky. She also was a 1952 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School.
In her later years Rhetta enjoyed spending time with her "Marion Girls' and classmates from USHS.
She also enjoyed listening to music and singing. And her greatest love was her family, which she cherished, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Rhetta Jane Bennett will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Trinity United Church of Christ with the Rev. Brad McKibben officiating; Burial will follow Old Mission Cemetery.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, October 23 from 2-4 and 6- 8pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and one hour before service time at the church on Thursday.
Memorial contribution may be made to Trinity U.C.C. or Wyandot Memorial Hospital and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home , 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351
