Raymond Aaron Stroud, age 89, of Nevada, Ohio, passed away on April 6, 2015 at 10:15pm at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.
Ray was born on September 7, 1925 in Lima, Ohio, to Joseph and Beatrice (Fulton) Stroud, both of whom are deceased. He married Bessie Spence on January 19, 1947 at the North Baltimore Lutheran Church and she passed away on December 31, 2011.
He is survived by a son Terry (Jeneane) Stroud of Nevada, a daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Richardson of Galion. Three grandchildren, Monica Stroud, of Bucyrus, Justin (Terra) Richardson of Arlington, Jennifer (Nate) Roston of Lewis Center and four great grandchildren. A sister Elzora Anna Lindemeyer of Riverside, California survives, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Verna Stumbaugh and Ethel Lenore McNamara.
Ray graduated from Lima High School in 1943 at which point he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed aboard the U.S.S. McGowan DD678 for a tour of over 2 years.
Ray retired from Galion Dresser in 1985 after many years of employment.
He was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post #462 in Nevada, and also a 50 year member of the Warpole Lodge #176, in Upper Sandusky.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, traveling and spending time with the friendly staff at Bob Evans in Upper Sandusky.
Ray loved to visit with family and friends, and with his warm smile and loving personality, he never knew a stranger. He will be greatly missed.
It was Ray's wishes that his graveside services to be private, with burial taking place next to his wife Bessie, in Nevada Cemetery, Nevada.
He was honored for his service to his country by Military graveside rites conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
