Ralph C. Bess

Ralph C. Boes, age 81, of rural Harpster, Ohio, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Marion General Hospital.

Ralph was born on July 22, 1944, in Covington, Virginia, to Cleaster Bess and Mary (Glass) Dickson. Ralph married Irene Rodriguez on July 11, 1975, in Bucyrus, Ohio, and she survives in Harpster.

Ralph is also survived by his children, Shannon Mcgrew of Lima, Heath Mcgrew of Sycamore, Carlos (Susan) Bess of Defiance, and Sara (Juan) Lima-Sanchez of Upper Sandusky; 4 grandchildren: Alexis Reeves, Estefani, Rosa, and Aleida Lima-Sanchez, and 1 great grandchild Eliana Lima-Sanchez. Ralph is also survived by his sisters Susan Bess, Goldie Dunway, and Jean Connor.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jack and Michael Bess, and sisters Mary Plough, and Delores Pine.

Ralph attended school at Marion Harding and went on to work in maintenance at Whirlpool in Marion for 35 years until his retirement in 2001.

Ralph was a former member of the Wyandot County Coon Hunters Association and enjoyed hunting for coon and deer. Ralph also enjoyed taxidermy and designed and sold hunting lights, known as “Alexis Hunting Lights.” Ralph also enjoyed coaching Carlos’ baseball and midget league football teams in his earlier years.
