Philip L. Cavanaugh, age 82, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 1:03pm at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

Phil was born on March 6, 1926 in Sycamore, Ohio to Lloyd and Hilda (Stine) Cavanaugh, both of whom are deceased.

He married Ruth Myers on October 23, 1948 at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky and she survives.

Also surviving are 2 children, Jeff Cavanaugh and Joy Cavanaugh both of Upper Sandusky. And 2 grandchildren, Rob Fox of Kansas City, Missouri and Rachelle Fox of Upper Sandusky along with 4 great grandchildren: Jayden, Jeta, Ian and Chase.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers: Dale Cavanaugh, Stanley (Bud) Cavanaugh and John Cavanaugh.

Phil, along with his wife Ruth, owned The Village Restaurant in Upper Sandusky. They built the restaurant in 1961 and together managed the business until their retirement in 1990.

Phil's employment in his early years were spent with U.S. Construction Company and working as a deputy sheriff with the Wyandot County Sheriffs Department. Phil also operated his own asphalt-black top business and then he along with Ruth managed the restaurant business at Wyandot Lanes before opening The Village.

Phil attended the Church of the Nazarene in Upper Sandusky and was a life member of the BPOE #83. For hobbies he raced his Standard Bred Horses. From his ownership, management, to the care of the horses, Phil really enjoyed every aspect of it.

Public visitations for Philip L. Cavanaugh will be held on Friday, September 12 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

Funeral Services on Saturday will be private. The Rev. Ben Gregory will be officiating and burial will take place at Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wyandot Memorial Hospital or The Ohio Lung Association and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH. 43351.
