Philip C. "Pete" Schindler, age 73, of rural Sycamore, and formerly of Upper Sandusky, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at his home.
Pete was born on July 9, 1951 in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Wayne A. And Marjorie L. (Henry) Schindler, both of whom are deceased. He married Raine Pickthall on March 8, 1975, in San Diego, California, and she survives.
He is survived also by his children: Jon (Lici) Schindler of Upper Sandusky, Mandy (John) Baldwin of Upper Sandusky, and Andy (Donja) Schindler of Crawfordsville, Indiana. 11 grandchildren: Wyatt Spiegel, Veronica (Brian) Stevens, Tyler (Alyssa) Diebert, Ruth Baldwin, Abraham Baldwin, Ezekiel Baldwin, Michael Schindler, Gabriel Schindler, William Schindler, Aaron Schindler and Elliana Schindler, along with 5 great grandchildren.
Pete is also survived by his brother, Dennis (Sherry) Schindler of Upper Sandusky, and a sister Mary Rodabaugh of Findlay.
He was a 1969 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and soon after graduating, Pete enlisted in the United States Air Force, having served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to the states after the war, Pete began working at the former Tecumseh Products in Marion, then transferring and working for Millington/Blackhawk Company in Upper Sandusky, until their closure. He then worked for the Kimmel Corporation in Upper Sandusky until his retirement. In his early years, Pete also farmed for the Joe Shumaker family, and Robert Stuckey family.
Pete was a member since 1980 of Trinity Evangelical Church in Upper Sandusky, having been active through the years as a custodian, a trustee, serving on the chair committee, helping with Upward, and attending New Horizons Sunday School class.
He was a life member of the following: AMVETS Post #777, American Legion #225, where he was past commander, and the VFW Post #2842. Pete was an active participant for the Upper Sandusky Color Guard and Honor Guard. He also served in various capacities with the American Legion.
For hobbies Pete enjoyed bowling with the Legion Team, playing cards at the Senior Connection, fishing, coaching softball and baseball when the kids were younger and spending time with his family.
He will be remembered for his patriotism and love of his country, his faith in Christ, and love for his family. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Pete Schindler will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 7, 2025, at Trinity Evangelical in Upper Sandusky with Pastor Jim Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, March 6, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Trinity Evangelical, and also 1 hour before service time at the church on Friday.
