Paul T. "Ted" Lucas, age 83, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 1:10am at his home in Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Lucas was born on March 28, 1931 in Marion, Ohio to George M. and Dorothy O. (Fehl) Lucas, both of whom are deceased. He married Josette E. Bourtayre on March 1, 1956 in Paris, France and she survives .
He is survived by 3 sons, Philip W. (Patty) Lucas of Findlay, Ohio, Eric J. (Marjie) Lucas of Granite Bay, California, and Daniel P. (RenAC.e) Lucas of Nevada, Ohio. Along with 14 grandchildren, Suzanne (Matt) Crouch of Findlay, Jonathon (Ashley) Lucas of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brett (fiancAC.e Abby Jordan) Lucas of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Kevin Lucas of Denver, Colorado, and Emily (Alex) Vogel of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Spencer Lucas of Brooklyn, New York, Zachary (Jamie) Lucas of Findlay, Sarah (Riordan) McClain of Upper Sandusky, Hannah Lucas-Capuano of Columbus, Ohio, Meredith (Andrew) Raboin, Nevada, Noah Lucas, Zebadiah Lucas, Will Lucas, and Sophia Lucas, all of Nevada, and 3 great grandchildren, Bryson Crouch and Norah and Harlow McClain.
Ted is also survived by a sister- in -law, Lois Lucas of Frost Proof, Florida, and many
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Dick and Gene Lucas and a sister Mary Alice Griswold-Robey, sister- in- law, Willene Lucas.
Mr. Lucas was a funeral director, beginning his 58th year of licensure with the State of Ohio. He was a 3rd generation owner of Lucas Funeral Home, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, J.T. Lucas and father George. Ted continued working part time in the business with his son Daniel, and business partner Brad Batton.
He was a 1949 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and attended BGSU until reaching his requirements for entering the Cleveland College of Mortuary Science in 1953. After graduating, Ted enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War, and started with basic training at Fort Knox, KY , after which he was then sent to Lab Tech School at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He was then placed in the Mortuary Division as an embalmer in the U.S. Army in Europe, serving in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Austria and Portugal.
Mr. Lucas was a member of the John Stewart U.M.C. in Upper Sandusky, 50 year member of the Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM, McCutchen Chapter #96 RAM, Upper Sandusky Council #98 RSM, DeMolay Commandery #9 Knights Templar- Tiffin, Aladdin Temple of the Shrine, Columbus. He was a member of the BPOE #83, American Legion Post #225 & #462, VFW Past member #2842, Amvets #777, along with the Upper Sandusky Rotary Club, where he served as the past president, and a Paul Harris Fellow.
He also served on the Upper Sandusky City Council, and served as director and past president of the Upper Sandusky Chamber of Commerce. Ted also was on the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Board of Governors for 24 years, the Wyandot Senior Village board, and the former Wyandot County American Cancer Society.
For hobbies Ted enjoyed traveling throughout the world with his wife Jo, golfing, reading various books on World War II history, 40's Big Band music, and was an avid sports enthusiast.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Brian Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, where graveside rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
Visitations will be held on Monday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County, Wyandot Memorial Hospital, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
