Paul Brennard Guthrie, age 91, of Upper Sandusky died on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 10:00 am at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
Paul was born on March 2, 1917 in McCutchenville, Ohio to Perry and Frizzie (Mooney) Gilliland. After the death of his mother, he was taken to be raised by his Uncle and Aunt, William and Mertie (Gilliland) Guthrie, when he was one week old.
Paul married Lydia Klotz on February 26, 1967 in Bluffton, Indiana, and she survives.
He is also survived by his two daughters by a previous
marriage, Judy Ann (Guthrie) Fleece of Carey, and Shirley (Guthrie) Stober of Sycamore. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Christine Wentling of Carey; David Fleece of Holland, MI.; Shawn Stober of Sycamore; Jason Stober of Sycamore; Jennifer Kesler of Carey and Michelle Stober of Upper Sandusky. Seven greatgrandchildren: Morgan and Laine Wentling; Allison and Adam Kesler; Grace and Emma Stober; and Kaden Stober. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by five brothers, Freddie, Adolph, Harry, Robert Gilliland and Howard Guthrie. And six sisters: Hazel (Gilliland) Redman, Nellie (Gilliland) Ekleberry, Flora (Gilliland) Sammet, Odessa (Gilliland) Sweigard, Gladys (Guthrie) McClain, Helen (Guthrie) Holl, and two granddaughters, Cynthia and Deborah Fleece.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Upper Sandusky, and a member of the Wyandot Tracers, OGS.
He was a 1936 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School.
Paul worked for his brother Howard, on a Egg and Poultry Route during the 1950's. He then later worked in maintenance at the Fairhaven Community in the late 60's and then retired in 1985 from the Upper Sandusky School System.
His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, bee keeping, mowing and walking.
Mr. Guthrie's historical interest in Wyandot County led to the inspiration in bringing the community together in the restoration of Stepping Stones. His lifetime of experiences and his gift of storytelling have touched the lives of his family and friends forever.
