Nelson A. Walkins

Nelson A. Walkins, age 77, of Upper Sandusky and formerly
of Nevada, died Monday, December 22, 2008 at 2:55pm at
MedCentral Health System in Mansfield, Ohio.

Nelson was born on December 27, 1930 in Kenton, Ohio to Richard and Carrie (Wilson) Walkins both of whom are deceased. He then married Edith M. Munson on April 19, 1951 in Marion, Ohio and she died on December 15, 2000.

Nelson is survived by six children: Nancy (Paul) Barlow of Bucyrus, Ohio, Cindy (Don) Fox of Bloomville, Ohio, Allen (Carol) Walkins of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Wendy (Burt) Perkins of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Peggy (Mike) Spiegel of Wharton, Ohio, and Amy Kellogg of Nevada, Ohio.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two grandchildren: Joshua Ratliff and Michael A. Dunn Jr., four brothers: Eugene, Daniel, Richard, William, and three sisters: Marcina, Wilma, and Ilene.

Nelson was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

He retired in 1995 from Container Recovery in Marion, Ohio after working there for ten years. He had previously been employed at Ekleberry Poultry for 20 years.

Nelson was a member of the Nevada United Methodist Church for over 20 years, a lifetime member of the Amvetts #777 and a former member of the Bucyrus Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling along with collecting coins and eagles. He enjoyed watching movies, especially westerns and enjoyed spending time with his cockatiel, Sonny.

Services for Nelson A. Walkins will be private, with burial taking place at Chapel Heights Memory Gardens, Marion, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to the Donor's Choice and may be sent in care of the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
