Nana Wanda Mcdermott

November 16, 1940 — January 14, 2019

On January 14, 2019, after 78 years of adventure on this earth, Nana Wanda McDermott earned her wings and took flight.

Born November 16, 1940 to the late Abner C. and R. Anita May, She was the eldest of five children.  She graduated from Mohawk High School in 1959.

She married the love of her life, the late Robert Elza McDermott, on October 1, 1960.    Their 58 years together took them to all of Europe, Kentucky, Georgia, Washington, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio, and most recently to Smokey's Campground in Upper Sandusky Ohio.

Their adventures also included raising three wonderful children; Robin McDermott Johnson (Darren), of Painesville, Ohio, Rodney McDermott of Mansfield, Texas, and Rhonda McDermott Hines (Willis III,  deceased), also of Painesville.  They were also blessed with two amazing grandchildren; Ellza Hines Tesny (Tyler), and Willis Hines IV,  both of Painesville, Ohio.

Wanda's life was full of family and faith.  She had a large extended family with which she maintained closed relationships.  She always had a smile and kind word for those who visited.  She was a member of Irving Park Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida and Wildwood Chapel in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

She enjoyed lunches with her "red hat" group and high school classmates and loved the many the "girl's trips with her family.  All her Florida guests were hosted to a tour of local sights and activities.  However, her favorite pastime was doting on her beloved pet "Teddy".

She is survived by her siblings:  Peggy Secoy (Donald),  Darrell May (Patricia), Larry May (Debra), and Lanny May (Becky).  She is preceded in death by her half brother Carlos May (Joyce).
