Minette V. Hull

November 5, 1918 — April 24, 2026

Upper Sandusy

Born on November 5th, 1918, during World War One and the Spanish Flu Pandemic, Minette V. Hull lived a long and interesting life before passing away on April 24th, 2026, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. The fourth of five daughters of Harrison W.W. Van Gundia and Nessie Lenore (Alford) Van Gundia, she was born on the family farm in Sycamore, Ohio.

She was not a stranger to hard work, including harvesting corn by hand and making corn shocks with her father and sisters, and delivering milk from the family dairy using a horse- drawn wagon up until, and including, the day she was married.

Minette graduated from Sycamore High School second in her class, attended one year at Heidelberg College before becoming the nursing assistant to Dr. F.M. Smith in Sycamore, where she learned to prepare pharmaceuticals, suture wounds and generally run the office.

She married Richard C. Hull of Upper Sandusky on October 12th, 1940, and resided on South Sandusky Avenue in Upper Sandusky for the remainder of her life.

Shortly after marriage, family plans were upended by the advent of World War Two and the departure of her husband to serve in the war. She remained living in Upper Sandusky, taking a position as a bookkeeper for the US Commission Company for several years before taking a position as a nursing assistant to Dr. F. Keenan in Upper Sandusky until the return of her husband.

During her long life in Upper Sandusky she became a local fixture, supporting community functions and lending her time, talent and treasure to family and friends alike until her death.

Minette enjoyed bridge, playing cards with her children and grandchildren, reading, travelling and her family. She was firm in her convictions, and her family and friends likely never had a fiercer advocate or proponent. She was caring and generous and she will be missed.

She is survived by her children Jane Spitler, Katherine M. Hull, James C. Hull and John H. Hull (Johanna); grandchildren Steven A. Spitler (Jennifer), Nancy (Spitler) Wrede (Wayne), Craig Spitler, Elizabeth Hull Gates (Bryan), Marnie K. Girado (Gonzalo) and great- grandchildren Alexandra Spitler, Lane Spitler, Bridie Spitler, Riley Gates and Ella Gates and a sister, Lenore (Van Gundia) Costello of Lake Alfred, Florida.

Minette was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son Robert Hull, her three sisters, Jane Barton, Elizabeth Curlis and Billie Jean Kuenzli, and a son- in- law, Sam Spitler.

Visitations for Minette V. Hull will be held on Friday, May 1, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitations on Friday at the funeral home.

The family requests that no flowers be sent but donation in her honor be made to the Mohawk Historical Society, Wyandot Memorial Hospital Foundation, or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
