Matthew "Matt" David Yeater, age 48, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
He was born January 16, 1977, in Marion, Ohio, to David and Michelle (Wolford) Yeater, of Upper Sandusky
Though given the name Matthew, he much preferred to be called Matt—and never hesitated to correct anyone who called him otherwise. Matt had a rough-and-tumble personality but a heart of gold. He never met a stranger, could strike up a conversation with anyone, and loved making people laugh.
Family meant everything to him. He especially enjoyed gatherings like summer picnics and Christmas get-togethers, or simply spending quiet hours at Killdeer watching deer and at Reber's Bottom watching eagles. When the weather was right, he found joy in "Camaro Therapy," cruising in his 1986 Z28 Camaro. A die-hard Michigan Wolverine fan, Matt relished every opportunity to tease and criticize the Ohio State Buckeyes—always with a grin. Stirring the pot was one of his favorite pastimes.
In addition to his parents, Matt is also survived by his son Brandon (Anna) of Waldo, and beloved granddaughter Ellie, who was the light of his life; his brother Ryan (Elizabeth) Yeater and their children William and Ella; and his sister Kari (Daryl) Stewart and their children Owen, Adalyn, and Vivien, all of Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his son Riley Yeater and by his grandparents Paul and Gladys Yeater of Upper Sandusky, and Eugene and Marcella Wolford of Bellefontaine.
A 1996 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Matt worked at Todco Overhead Door and Whirlpool in Marion before a life-changing illness in 2015 forced him to step back. In more recent years, he found joy in music, spending weekends as a DJ at TNT Sports Lounge.
A public visitation for Matt Yeater will be held from 10-12 noon on Saturday, September 13th, 2025 at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. The family is requesting casual attire for those attending the visitation.
Funeral services for Matt will be private.
