Mary Jo Kirkland

Mary Jo Kirkland, 92, formerly of Upper Sandusky, died Monday, September 16, 2013 at The Heritage in Findlay.

Born on November 24, 1920 in Bellarie, Ohio, she is the daughter of the late L.G. "Ted" and Anna (Drahos) Heil.
On February 22, 1947, she married Lee A. Kirkland in First Evangelical Reformed Church in Bellaire, Ohio. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1993.

Surviving are her two children; Alan (Cindy) Kirkland, Dublin, OH, and JoAnn (Mark) Hahn, Findlay. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Courtney (Jessica) Kirkand, Westerville, Cory Kirkland, Columbus, Jamie (Shane) DeLong, Findlay and Joey (Fiance, Victoria) Hahn, Florence KY, two great grandchildren; Hailey Hahn and Tanner Kirkland.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert F. and "Teddi" Heil.

Mary Jo was a 1938 graduate of Bellaire High School. She was a bookkeeper for U.S. Implement and A.W. Lee Sports, both in Upper Sandusky. She retired in 1989 as Executive Director of the American Cancer Society of Wyandot County.

She served as member of Board of Governors, Wyandot Memorial Hospital for 37 years (1970-2006). She was a member of Alpha Usanda Literary Club, Wyandot Health Foundation and Rotary Club. She was Upper Sandusky Citizen of The Year in 1991.

She was a member of John Steward United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky, where she was a past president and treasurer of United Methodist Women.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, September 20, 2013 from Noon - 2:00 p.m. at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.

Funeral will be Friday, September 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Kara Ward Fund to assist in her battle with breast cancer in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 South Sandusky Avenue, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351
