Martha M. Gottfried

Martha M. Gottfried, age 92, of Tiffin and formerly of Sycamore, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 7:20pm at the Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.

Martha was born on July 5, 1920 in Pitt Township, Wyandot County to Samuel and Addie (Gerlach) Lawrence. She married Lester L. Gottfried on February 1, 1940 in Greenup, Kentucky and he died on September 13, 2003.

Her two children Gary (Linda) Gottfried and Schareline Yeager, both reside in Tiffin. And Martha was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Jennifer Norwood (Erin McGinnis), James (Diane) Gottfried, Lori Yeager (Greg Carpenter), and Gina (Steve) Dutcher. She also had seven great grandchildren and one great great grandson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a great grandson, Grant Gottfried Carpenter, two brothers, Robert and LaVerne Lawrence and a son in law, Paul Yeager.

Besides helping her husband with the family farm, Martha worked as a cook for McCutchenville Elementary School and during the summers, she cooked for the former Camp Pittenger.

Martha was a 1939 graduate of Nevada High School. She was a former member of the Garden Club and Craft Club, both in Sycamore and also the Travel Club in Sycamore and Nevada, and also served as a volunteer with the Wyandot Memorial Hospital.

Martha was able to travel extensively throughout the United States and also took several trips abroad. She was a talented seamstress and loved to do crafts of many kinds and also enjoyed playing bingo and taking part in the other activities at Autumnwood during her stay there.

Funeral services for Martha M. Gottfried will be private with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.
