Marilyn Elizabeth Holzwart of Upper Sandusky died Monday, May 19, 2008 at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was 66.
She was born on July 17, 1941 to Floyd and Blanche (Roberts) Burks in Belle Vernon, Ohio. She then married Wayne E. Holzwart on November 8, 1959 in Belle Vernon, Ohio and he survives.
Marilyn is also survived by four children: Mark (Susan) Holzwart of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; Doreen Lemmert (Mike Medal) of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Catherine Elizabeth (Maxwell) Gerber of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; John (Amy) Holzwart of Findlay, Ohio. Nine grandchildren also survive: Matthew, Michael, and Gabrielle Holzwart, Lucas Medal, Alissa, Abigail, and Anna Gerber, Abram Johnston, and Clayton Harley Holzwart.
Two brothers: Harlan Dave Burks of Columbus, Ohio, Wayne Burks of Upper Sandusky, Ohio and two sisters: Bonnie Sharrock of Grand Rapids, Ohio and Maxine Hannam of Sycamore, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers: Bill Burks, Bob Burks, and Keith Burks.
Marilyn was a State Certified Nursing Assistant at Fairhaven Community for 29 years. During that time she also worked at Wyandot Memorial, Wyandot Manor and before that Westinghouse all in Upper Sandusky. Marilyn also provided home health care for various residents in Wyandot County. In her association with Fairhaven Community, Marilyn recently traveled to Joplin, Missouri to receive a national award through NAHCA (National Association of Health Care Assistants) for having the "Best Attitude" for which she received a standing ovation.
She was member of the former Bethany Lutheran church since 1960. After its closing she transferred her membership to North Salem Lutheran Church. Within the church she was active at one time as a children's Sunday school teacher, a member of church council and various other activities. She was a former member of Mothers Club in Upper Sandusky and a bowling team member at Wyandot Lanes. For hobbies Marilyn enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, bird watching, baking (especially cookies), volunteering at Fairhaven, and spending time with her grandchildren. Marilyn was a graduate of Mohawk High School, Class of 1959.
Funeral services for Marilyn E. Holzwart will be held at 10:30am Friday, May 23 at Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky. The Reverends Andrea Starn,
John Hoover and Mike Brown will be officiating. Burial will be at Schoenberger Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, May 22, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm and 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and 1 hour before service time at the church on Friday.
