Mabel Ann "Mae" Duress

Mabel Ann "Mae" Duress, age 92, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 4:20am at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Upper Sandusky.

Mae was born on October 15, 1930 in Guilford, Connecticut to George and Annabel (DeMond) Hunt, both of whom are deceased.  She married Russell "Bud" Duress on December 26, 1948 and Bud passed away on June 29, 2010.

She is survived by 3 children, John (Debra) Duress of Upper Sandusky, Pamela (Richard) Binau of Fremont, Scott (Jaime) Duress of Upper Sandusky. 7 Grandchildren, Brian (Janelle Blue) Duress, Katie Duress, Sara Celek, Erin (Calvin Jr.) Murray, and Joel (Hannah) Duress, Adam (Rebekah) and Sam (Hope) Duress, along with 10 great grandchildren, Caleb Savannah, Kaitlynn, Edra, Claira, Carli, Elijah, Eliana, AJ, and Owen.

Mae was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Kenneth Wilson, George Hunt Jr., Robert Hunt, and 2 sisters, Jean Stumpe and Dorothy Leljedal.

She was a 1948 graduate of Guilford Senior High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.   Mae was also the captain of the girl's basketball team, and was known as "Swishy Hunt". After graduation, Mae attended Stone College in New Haven, Connecticut.

Mae was a homemaker and also retired from Wilson Tire Company in Upper Sandusky where she worked as a secretary for 25 years.

She attended Trinity Evangelical Church in Upper Sandusky and was a former member of 1st Congregational Church in Guilford.  She was a 25 year member of the Beta Usando Literary Club in Upper Sandusky.

Mae enjoyed cooking, baking, tending to her flowers, doing the Wall Street Journal Crossword puzzle, and watching Jeopardy, and opening her home for her grandchildren and their friends for ping pong games.

She will be remembered for her love of family, especially her grandchildren, where she never missed a sports event, musical, or concert that they participated in.  She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life service for Mable A. "Mae" Duress will be held at 7:00pm, Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating.

Visitations will be held 2 hours before service time, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, on Wednesday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Sandusky Music Boosters, or Wyandot County Nursing Home Activities Fund, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH  43351.
