M. Jeannette Mathews

Mabel Jeannette Mathews, age 77, a resident of the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday Evening, January 16, 2014 at Fairhaven.

Jeannette was born on
September 14, 1936 in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Harold G. and Mildred E. (Keller) Fackler, both of whom are deceased. She married Merle E. "Red" Mathews on May 3, 1957 in Nevada, Ohio, and he died on September 9, 2012.

Surviving is a daughter, Julie (Randy) Burks in Upper Sandusky, and 2 sons, Doug (Tammy) Mathews and David (Cindy) Mathews, both of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Four grandchildren, Jacob (Stephanie) Burks of Findlay, Ohio, Alissa Burks of Columbus, Ohio, Paige Mathews of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Ethan Mathews also of Harrisonburg.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. Mathews, and 2 sisters, Marilyn Gibson and Eugenia Waggy.

Jeannette was a 1954 graduate of Nevada High School, where was a member of various choir groups and of the National Honor Society. In 1957, she graduated from Flowers Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio, with a degree as a registered nurse.

Jeannette spent her entire nursing career at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, In fact, if you were born in the 1960's at Wyandot Memorial, she probably took care of you. Nursing and caring for others, was her passion even up to the later years of life, where she would often sit with fellow residents at Fairhaven.

She had several passions outside of nursing and that was college basketball in which she followed Duke and also college football, where she loved the OSU Buckeyes. She also enjoyed watching the cooking channel.

It was Jeannette's wish to be cremated with no visitations. A private burial will take place at Nevada Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the All Species Adoption Program or the Maternity Ward Fund at Wyandot Memorial Hospital and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH, 43351.
