Luther B. Lust, age 93, of Nevada, Ohio passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 8:15am at the Inn at Westbrook in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Luther was born on August 2, 1918 in Wyandot County, Ohio to George and Mabel (Brause) Lust both of whom are deceased. He married Alice Gingery on December 22, 1946 in Sulpher Springs, Ohio and she passed away on October 28, 2005.
Surviving Luther is a son, Kenneth (Sandra) Lust of Sycamore, Ohio and a daughter Sharon (Michael) Schnell of New Bremen, Ohio, four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Carla) Lust, James Lust, Kristina (Steven) Nicolo and Joseph Schnell along with 4 great grandchildren.
Also surviving Luther are two brothers, Orrin Lust of Upper Sandusky and Calvin (Mary) Lust of Sycamore, Ohio and a sister Alice (Don) Hieber of Bloomville, Ohio.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister Kathryn Breidenbach.
Luther graduated from McCutchenville High School in 1936 where he was class president. He went on to Ohio Northern University to get his bachelor's degree in Education majoring in Math/Science. Luther went on to serve in the US Army during WWII with the 93rd Ordinance Maintenance Company having served in the European and North African Theaters. Later he was promoted to the rank as Major. After the war, Luther went back to college to earned his Masters Plus in School Administration at the Ohio State University.
Prior to the war, Luther taught Math and Science at Sulphur Springs, then after serving our country he went back to teaching at Carey for 2 years, before moving on as Superintendant at Nevada High School. Then after the consolidation of Nevada School to form the Wynford School System, in which Luther played a vital part, he ended up serving as principal at Wynford for many years. He ended his career in teaching serving as Secondary School Supervisor with the Crawford County Schools.
Luther also enjoyed farming since the purchase of a farm with his father George and later years with his son Kenneth.
Luther was a member since 1947 of Nevada Lutheran Church. He was a also a member of the Nevada Lion's Club and the Nevada American Legion, Rotary of Bucyrus and enjoyed attending the Retired Teachers Association gatherings and going to the Council on Aging events both in Upper Sandusky and Bucyrus.
For hobbies Luther enjoyed golfing, playing euchre, following local and professional
sports and traveling with his wife to most of the United States and Europe and later with
his brother Orrin, and sister Alice to China, Jordan and Egypt.
Funeral services for Luther B. Lust will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Nevada Lutheran Church in Nevada with the Rev. Chelsea Spencer and Gene Luidhardt, SAM, officiating the services. Burial will follow at the Oceola Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 5:00PM - 8:00PM at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky and one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Lions Club or the Luther Lust Scholarship fund in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
