Leo E. Hare, age 96, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Altercare of Bucyrus.
Leo was born on January 18, 1929 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, to Russell and Carrie (Strub) Hare, both of whom are deceased. He married Elma D. “Sally” Stansbery on July 12, 1955 and she passed away on November 20, 2004.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Rick McWaters, Tim McWaters, Miles Horsley, Randy Gottfried, and Tammy Craig, along with 6 great grandchildren, and many great great grandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter Carol Watts, a son Bob Gottfried, a great grandson Toby McWaters, a brother Dwight Hare, and 3 sisters, Virginia Frederick, Martha Gillespie, and Helen Hare.
He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School and soon after graduation was drafted into the U.S. Army. After returning from the service, Leo began working at Timken in Bucyrus, retiring in 1986 after 33 years.
Leo was a member of the Moose Lodge #669, American Legion Post #181, and Elks #156, all in Bucyrus.
Leo and his wife Sally, enjoyed their summers at Lake Erie, and winters in Naples, Florida for many years. He enjoyed fishing on his boat, hunting, gardening, cooking, and going out to eat.
Funeral services for Leo E. Hare will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 17 at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with burial to follow at Old Mission Cemetery, where military graveside rites to be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
Visitations will be held 1 hour before service time at the funeral home on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society and can be sent to Lucas Batton, 476 S Sandusky Ave Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
