Lavonne Rice

LaVonne Rice, age 89, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 8:25am at The Inn at Westbrook in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

She was born on November 29, 1921 in Hancock County, Ohio to Ralph and Hulda (Peterman) Sampson, both of whom are deceased.

LaVonne married Paul Eugene Rice on June 9, 1943 at the Central Christian Church in Marion, Ohio and he passed on July 16, 2003.

Surviving is a daughter Sharon and her husband Ronald Kaper of Centerville, Ohio along with a grandson Jeffrey Horne of Kettering.
A brother Carl Sampson of Tea, South Dakota also survives.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother Allen Sampson.

LaVonne was retired from the City of Upper Sandusky where she served
as the City Income Tax Commissioner for many years. Before that she worked with her husband Paul and they were owners of Rice's IGA in Vanlue and Rice's Foodliner in Upper Sandusky. She was a graduate of Fostoria High School and continued her education at the Marion Business School.

She was a longtime member of the Emanuel United Church of Christ
in rural Upper Sandusky, where she was active, and treasurer, of the Women's Guild. For hobbies LaVonne enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting and helping out at her church.

Graveside services for LaVonne Rice will be held at 2:30pm Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Marion Cemetery in Marion, Ohio with the Rev. Martin Stiffler officiating.

Visitations will be held on Friday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
