Larry G. Shirey, age 75, of Upper Sandusky and formerly of Willard, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 01, 2013 at 3:10pm at his home in Upper Sandusky.

He was born on July 4, 1938 in Shelby, Ohio, to George and Lena (Echelbarger) Shirey, both of whom are deceased. He married Sharon Voorheis-Ruhlen on April 4, 1981, and she survives.

Also surviving are 4 sons; Rick (Christine) Shirey of Plymouth, Ohio, Kevin (Mardy) Shirey, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Bryan (Angie) Shirey of Springfield, Ohio and Jim (Jennifer) Ruhlen of Upper Sandusky. And 3 daughters; Debra (Steve) Stockmaster of Willard, Elizabeth (Greg) Braun of Sarasota, Florida and Peggy (Christopher) Stokke of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Larry is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren along with a sister, Joyce Ann Delury of Carbondale, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ronald, David, Gerald and Don, and a sister Susan Black.

Larry retired in 1993 after many years with Ohio Steel Tube in Shelby, Ohio.

He was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of the following organizations, Amvets Post #777, where he was a life member, VFW Post 2842, Sons of the American Legion Post 225, Eagles Lodge,and the Moose Lodge #1093, all located in Upper Sandusky.

For hobbies, Larry enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting and golfing. He was always tinkering in the garage and always seemed to have some type of project that he was working on.

Funeral services for Larry G. Shirey will be held at 2:30pm, Monday, October 7, 2013
At the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Joe Trester officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where Military Graveside rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, October 6, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County, or the American Cancer Society and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
