Larry W. "Buck" Sand

Larry W. "Buck" Sand, age 76, of rural Nevada, Ohio passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 4:43pm at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 2, 1938 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Ervin and Maude Faye (McHenry), both of whom are deceased. He married Jo Ann Wood on December 9, 1967 in Marion, Ohio, and she survives.

Also surviving are 5 children, John (Judy) Sullivan of Nevada, Mike Sullivan of Oceola, Laura (Gilbert Jr.) Bucher of Nevada, Brenda Sand of Nevada and Brian Sand of Nevada. Along with 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Buck was preceded in death by a brother Roger Sand.

Buck was a 3rd generation farmer having farmed his entire life. It was his passion and love. He also is the owner of Buck's Place in Nevada, recently celebrating his 25th anniversary of ownership.

He was a long time member of the Nevada Lutheran Church in Nevada and a member of the following organizations, VFW Post 8999, Amvets Post #27, Moose Lodge #699, all of Bucyrus.

Buck was a member of the former Nevada Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as the fire chief for 5 years and gave over 19 years of service. He also was part of the original volunteers of the Nevada EMS, of which he served for 18 years.

For hobbies Buck enjoyed going fishing, driving his golf cart to town, traveling with his wife, following NASCAR especially Jeff Gordon. But his great love was spending time with his family and friends, and life on the farm. He will be greatly missed by many.

Funeral services for Larry W. "Buck" Sand will be held 11:00am Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Nevada Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted, along with a last page from the fire department.

Visitations will be on Wednesday, from 1-3pm and 5-8pm at the Nevada Lutheran Church and 1 hour before service time on Thursday.
