Judith Ann Welch, age 92, of Upper Sandusky, and formerly of Nevada, Ohio,
passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Westbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care of Upper Sandusky.
Judy was born on January 7, 1933 in Crawford County, Ohio, to Devore and Olive (Watts) Powers. She was raised in Oceola and graduated from Holmes Liberty High School. The next day, May 25, 1951, she married Grove "Bud" Welch in Mansfield, Ohio. They enjoyed nearly 69 years of marriage, until he passed on April 20, 2020.
In 1956, Judy and Grove bought a small farm south of Nevada, where they raised four children: Chris (Craig) Thompson, Mitchell (Dyana) Welch, Roberta (Robert) Lewis, and Dee Carter. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Charlene (Thompson) Dimerling, Carrie Thompson, Carla (Thompson) Shamblen, Monica (Welch) Gerhart, Michael Welch, Jacqueline (Lewis) Devine, Samantha Lewis and Todd Carter. Judy's family grew to include eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Grove, brothers Donald Powers and James Powers, and a sister Dolores Pfleiderer.
Judy had been employed at both J.J. Newberry and J.C. Penney in Bucyrus and also at the Wynford High School cafeteria. But, what was most important to her was being a wife and mother.
She was a long standing member of the Nevada Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, served on church council, and also taught Sunday School.
Judy loved nature, and was an avid bird watcher. She was an Eagle Watcher for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and also gave bird talks in school classrooms. She was an accomplished sewist and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Canning and freezing the home grown produce was a summer-long endeavor, and she generously shared much of her bounty with others.
She was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed following her children and
grandchildren in local and college sporting activities.
Graveside services for Judith Ann Welch will be held at 10:00am Monday,
September 8, 2025, at the Nevada Cemetery with Pastor Jay Scott officiating.
