Joyce I. Montgomery

Joyce I. Montgomery, age 89, of rural Nevada, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018

at her home in Nevada.

Joyce was born on June 17, 1929 in Wyandot County, Ohio, to Earl and Mae (Chatlain)

Burnside.  She married Paul K. "Kenny" Montgomery on October 15, 1950 at the

Salem United Methodist Church, and he passed away on May 19, 2017.

She is survived by two sons: Don (Liz) Montgomery and

Jim (Wanda) Montgomery, both of Nevada, Ohio, grandchildren

Matt (Kristen) Montgomery, of Upper Sandusky, Bryan (Beth) Montgomery

of Harpster, Ohio, and Tina (Chad) Bruckman of Johnson City, Tenessee.  Steven (Laurie) Hensel of Upper Sandusky, Krista (Earl) Fruth of Bucyrus, Ohio and Brian (Tara) Hensel of Nevada, Ohio, along with  13 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

A sister-in-law, June Montgomery of Dunkirk also survives,

along with 4 nieces: Janice, Cindy, and Kathy of Georgia and Susan of Dunkirk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Richard, a daughter, Karen, a grandchild Heath, and a brother Glenn Burnside.

Joyce was a homemaker and helped out on the family farm, along with driving a school bus for the Wynford Schools for 18 years.

She was a 1948 graduate of Nevada High School, and a longtime member of the Union Salem United Methodist Church.  Joyce also was a member of the Pythian Sisters of Nevada #412 where she served as

a past officer and past district deputy in the state. She was also a member of the Warpole Chapter 366 Order of the Eastern Star in Upper Sandusky, Farm Bureau and served for many years as a 4H advisor.

For hobbies she enjoyed raising flowers, following her grandchildren in their various activities.

Funeral services for Joyce Montgomery will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Kristen Buchs and Rev. Matt Garrabrant officiating. Burial will be at Nevada Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, August 8, from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with a Pythian Memorial Service to be held at 1:45pm, followed by an OES Memorial Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union-Salem UMC, Wyandot County Council of Aging, or the Wyandot East Fire District, and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio  43351.
