Joseph Thomas Nucifera

December 31, 1921 — March 21, 2008

Joseph Thomas Nucifera, age 86, 151 Highbluffs Blvd., Columbus, OH, formerly
of Upper Sandusky, OH, passed away peacefully and with dignity as he lived
his life, at Riverside Hospital on March 21, 2008 at 8:23 p.m..

Joe was born December 31, 1921, in Bellevue, OH to the late Samuel and Rosa
(Micciulla) Nucifera. He married Mary A. Nucifera (Krupp, Niederkohr) on
November 5, 1960 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Sycamore, OH and she
survives. He was the proud and loving "dad" to Dennis (Patti) Niederkohr,
Bradenton, FL, Daniel (Sandra) Niederkohr, Marysville, OH, David (Linda)
Niederkohr, Powell, OH and Diane Niederkohr-Stephens, Delaware, OH.

He was a very proud and loving grandpa of eight grandchildren Ryan, Holly,
Nicolas, Nathan Niederkohr, Sarah (Niederkohr) Wong, Caitlin (Niederkohr)
Schmidt and Joseph and Jennifer Stephens. His first great-grandchild is
expected in May.

Joe will be remembered lovingly by numerous friends and family members,
sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.

He is survived by a brother, Anthony (Bertha) Nucifera, Phoenix, AZ and
three nephews in Phoenix. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah and
brothers James and Samuel.

Joseph received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Ohio State University
in 1949 and moved to Upper Sandusky in 1951 after completing post graduate
work in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture.

He retired from the State of Ohio where he worked as a Certified Wildlife
Biologist and Certified Horticulturist. He was a member of the City of
Upper Sandusky Tree Commission and at various times voluntarily drafted
basic landscape plans for the Wyandot County Museum Board. As a member of
the Planning Board he designed landscape plans for the Bicentennial Park
Committee.

He was a member of Transfiguration of the Lord Church, a former Scoutmaster
of St. Peter's Boy Scout Troop #125, a life member of the Knights of
Columbus Council #2050 and a life member of Elks Lodge #83 all in Upper
Sandusky.

Joseph was a United States Marine Veteran of World War II, a Staff-Sgt.
attached to the Third Marine Air Wing. He was an avid conservationist and
dog lover. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, recording and listening
to semi-classical music and reading. He was a devoted Ohio State Football
fan and also enjoyed watching golf, boxing and other sporting events on TV.

Joe's loving gentle ways and friendly smile will be missed by everyone,
particularly his wife, children and grandchildren.

Avenue, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
