Joseph Paul Lanker

December 11, 1950 — September 28, 2024

Wharton

Joseph Paul Lanker, age 73, of Wharton, died peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay following an extended illness.

On December 11, 1950, Joe was born in Tiffin, Ohio, the youngest of four children of the late Russell and Elizabeth (Sample) Lanker.

One fateful day, Joe went to his best friend's house, Rex Rhoden, where he was introduced to Rex's younger sister, Marilee.  It was love at first sight for both of them, and Joe even told Rex he would marry Marilee some day.  That day came on April 18, 1970, and they have cherished every minute of their 54 years together.

For 40 years, Joe worked in the shipping department at Porcelain Products in Carey, from where he retired in 2014.  He then found a 2nd job that he loved at Angeline Industries, doing anything they needed of him.  He especially loved the students and all of his co-workers there.

With a love for the outdoors, one of Joe's favorite pastimes throughout his life was arrow head hunting.  He also loved to go fishing and he enjoyed golfing in his younger days.

Avid cruisers, Joe and Marilee loved to go on vacation and go on a special cruise together.  When asked about their favorite cruise, Marilee quickly responded "all of them".

Most important of all to Joe was his family.  He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.  His precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren were "his world" and he loved to spend time with them.  His family will forever be grateful for the thousands of wonderful memories made together, all of which they will cherish.  Joe also wanted his family and friends to know he accepted God into his life, and while things seem darker today Heaven got a little brighter.

He will be missed by his beloved wife, Marilee Lanker; two children: Joseph "Shannon" Lanker, and Lora Lee Lanker, all of Wharton; three grandchildren: Shane Dible of Tiffin, Josie Lanker, and Joseph Tracy "JT" Lanker, both of Wharton; three great-grandchildren: Lili and Liam Dible, and Dallas Lanker; a brother, Russell Lanker of McCutchenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his two sisters: Sandra Hall and Joyce Hagenbuch; and a sister-in-law, Marlene Lanker.

His family will greet friends from 2:30 – 4 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky St., Upper Sandusky.  Services honoring his life will follow there at 4 pm with Pastor David Odegard officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Angeline Industries and they may be sent to Lucas Batton, 476 S Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
