John W. Watkins, age 85, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 6:55am at his home in Upper Sandusky.
John was born on August 31, 1936 in Logan County, Ohio to James Blaine and Mary Ethelyn (Johnson) Watkins, both of whom are deceased. He married Shirley Henry on June 14, 1958, and she survives.
He is survived by 2 children, Jeffrey (Dawn) Watkins of Upper Sandusky, and Jodi Bash of Carey, Ohio. 6 grandchildren: Emilee Carr, Amanda (Ryan) Courtright, Blaine (Daniella) Watkins, Jacob Bash, Mary Jo Bash, and Katelyn Bash, along with 2 great-grandchildren, Finnigan Carr and Jettson Bash.
John is also survived by a brother, Harvey Watkins of St. Mary's, Ohio, and 2 sisters, Josephine (Wes) Metz of Marion, and Eva (Charles) Johnson of North Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Lloyd Dean Watkins, 6 brothers, Herman "Jake", Jim, Roger, Ray, Charlie, and Lawrence, and 2 sisters, Elsie Spence and Evelyn Markin.
John started out in 1963 as a timber cutter for Roger W. Henry, and then worked for Oborn Lumber Co. as a head timber buyer for 20 years, until he, along with his son Jeffrey, own and operated Watkins Logging until his retirement just a few years ago.
For hobbies, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, mushroom hunting, gardening, and playing cards. He also enjoyed visiting his friends in Amish country and going to his grandchildren's various activities.
Funeral services for John W. Watkins will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home with his grandson, Blaine Watkins officiating.
Graveside services for John will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, December 4, at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lewisburg.
Visitations will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home.
