John T. Sams

John T. Sams, age 99, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on
Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

John was born on May 7, 1916 in Wyandot County, Ohio, to Terry E. and Huldah V..(Milum) Sams. After his father's death his mother married Otto Swerlein.

John married Geraldine P. Ellis on June 5, 1942 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and she passed away on October 15, 2000.

He is survived by his daughter, Sue Ann Bennett of Nevada, and grandchildren, Joy (Rich) Bennett Reber of Ostrander, Ohio, and Bobbi (Aaron) Korte of Upper Sandusky, along with great grandchildren, Ethan, Hope and George Korte.

John is also survived by a half-brother, Ray Swerlein of Dublin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, Dwight Sams, and a half-brother, Richard Swerlein.

John was the owner and operator of Sams Electric in Upper Sandusky for many years. He had also worked as a guard for the Marion Engineer Depot and was in charge of maintenance for Fairhaven Home from 1970 to 1979.

He was a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II with the 104th Timberwolf Division in the European Theater.

John was a member of the former Eden Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee. He was a life member of both the VFW Post #2842 and American Legion Post 225, in Upper Sandusky. And was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees

John enjoyed his morning visits with friends at McDonald's and Kroney's, and loved to make people smile. He loved his family and his home, especially spending time with his granddaughters, and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

Funeral services for John T. Sams will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Ralph Krall officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Sycamore, Ohio, where military graveside rites will be conducted.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and 1 hour before service time on Thursday, at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
