John L. Parsell

John L. Parsell, age 74, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 11:32am at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

John was born on September 8, 1947 in Marion, Ohio, to John V. and Henrietta (Soule) Parsell, both of whom are deceased.  He married Jo (Lynch) Parsell in 1971 and she survives.

He is survived by his 2 sons, Jeffrey (Amy) Parsell of Marengo, and Chris (Katrina) Parsell of Marion, former daughter-in-law Kimberlee Jump, and grandchildren, Liam (Hannah) Parsell, Emma Parsell, Raegan Parsell, Kit Parsell and Winn Parsell, Nahdya Faison and Micah Faison.

John is also survived by his 3 sisters, Marsha DeGoode-Dunbar of Tiffin, Elaine (Mark) Woodrum of Prospect, and Jane (Steven) McPherson of Morral, and a sister in law, Hellowee Parsell of Upper Sandusky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mark Parsell, and brother-in-law Jim Dunbar.

John graduated from Upper Sandusky High School and received a Bachelor of Science from Findlay College and then went on to serve our country as a Captain in the United States Air Force, having served in the Vietnam War. After the service, John and Jo raised their boys in California until they moved back to Ohio in 1992.

He has been a member of Destiny Church in Rocklin, CA, Trinity Evangelical in Upper Sandusky, OH and CenterPoint Church in Marion, OH where he served on the board and taught Sunday School.

John enjoyed mentoring and tutoring students at Taft and Ridgedale elementary schools.  He loved reading and was a passionate lifelong learner. He was an avid hobbyist who enjoyed woodworking, shooting sports, fishing, working on classic cars and building computers. He and his wife Jo, of 50 years, enjoyed spending time at Maumee Bay State Park and taking walks together. John was a man of wisdom, conviction and strong character who loved the Lord and his family.

Visitations for John Parsell will be held on Sunday, March 6th, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.  A memorial service will follow visitations on Sunday, at 4:00pm with Rev. Amy Parsell officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Monday, March 7, 2022 at the Grand Prairie Cemetery, Marion Ohio, with Upper Sandusky Color Guard honoring John's service with military graveside rites.
