John D. Koehler

John D. Koehler, age 94, of Morral, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 6:31am at Select Health Care of Columbus, Ohio.

John was born on July 3, 1919 in Crane Township, Wyandot County, Ohio to Adam and Frances (Dible) Koehler, both of whom are deceased. He married Mary S. "Sue" Schindler on September 30, 1945 at the First Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky and she passed on August 6, 2004.

Surviving are 2 children, Samuel (Becky) Koehler of Wharton, Ohio, and Rosemary (David) Craig of Morral. Along with 4 grandchildren, Steven(Theresa) Koehler of Wharton, Cindy (Patrick) Frey of Columbus, Jennifer (Ivan) Hansford of Upper Sandusky and Matthew (Jessica) Craig of Marion, and 4 great grandchildren, Zakery Koehler, Hunter Koehler, Maci Craig and Cullen Craig.

He is also survived by a sister, Anna Louise Kaiser of Upper Sandusky.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter, Charlene Koehler.

John was a farmer and also worked at the Marion Correctional Institution. He retired from farming in 1990 and from MCI in 1979.

He was a graduate from Upper Sandusky High School in1938 and went on to attend Capital University for 2 years.

John was of the Lutheran faith having affiliations with St. Paul Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church, both in Upper Sandusky. He served at St. Paul's on the church council and sang in the choir.

For hobbies, John enjoyed being outside mowing the yard and cooking, especially his caramel corn. And was an avid OSU Buckeye fan.

Services for John D. Koehler will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Joe Trester officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitations will be on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
