John Leland Constien

John Leland Constien of Upper Sandusky died suddenly on Monday, October 22, 2012. He was 82.
Born September 2, 1930 in Upper Sandusky, OH, he was the only child of the late Raymen and Opha (Marklund) Constien. He married Mary Jane Koehler on June 9, 1955. She resides at their home in Upper Sandusky.
John is also survived by four children: Leland (Cynthia) Constien, Nevada, OH; Lance (Lina) Constien, Elkridge, MD; Linette (Christopher) Corwin, New Richmond, OH; Lorette (Jeffrey) Willson, Nevada, OH; and five grandchildren: Angela (David) Schwab, Nicholas (Kathryn) Willson, Cliff John (Jessica) Constien, Cody Willson and Amy Constien.
John graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1948 and worked at Upper Drug until being drafted into the Korean War. He served in the Army as a pharmacy apprentice while stationed in Germany. He returned to study pharmacy and graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1957.
He and Mary Jane eventually purchased the very pharmacy where they met and operated it as Upper Drug until his retirement from pharmacy, and then as a gift store today known as The Corner Store. He was still working six days a week at the time of his death.
John's hobby was his business and the daily opportunity it offered him over sixty-five years to touch other's lives with his smile, kindness and conversation. His passion was his family and his interests included reading, photography, watching sports, woodworking and tending to his home and yard.

Note: Because of the overwhelming response of the community, there will be a Gathering Of Family & Friends at The Corner Store on Friday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm

Funeral services for John will be private and he will be interred at Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Historical Society in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
