JoAnn Gongwer, age 93, of Upper Sandusky, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Upper Sandusky.

JoAnn was born on July 26, 1933 in Marion, Ohio, to John Albert and Mildred Ruth (Harris) Jury. She married Paul Gongwer on June 6, 1953, at the home of her parents in Wyandot, and he survives.

She is also survived by a son, Dale (Sue) Gongwer of Sycamore, and a daughter, Patricia (Tim) Conrad of Harpster, along with 4 grandchildren, Michael Gongwer, Jamie Shane, Payton Conrad, and Cassidy Conrad.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, a son Ronald Gongwer, daughter Terry Gaietto, granddaughter, Holly Gongwer, a brother, Ted Jury, and 3 sisters, Lucille Koch, Gwen Graham, and Betty McCarty.

She attended Wyandot School until 8th grade, then went on to Nevada High School, graduating in 1953.

JoAnn was a homemaker and helped on the family farm, along with working at the Steer Barn Restaurant in Upper Sandusky for 20 years. She also had worked for GE in Tiffin for 10 years.

She was a 75-year member of the Warpole Lodge #366 OES in Upper Sandusky. A member of the Knights of Tiffin American Motorcycle Association Club.

For hobbies JoAnn enjoyed sports in her younger years as an avid softball player, having played in Marion for “Smity’s Maids” as a teenager, and playing teams state wide. She also golfed and bowled.

Funeral services for JoAnn Gongwer will be held a 1:00pm Friday, August 21, at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Pastor Steve Sturgeon officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery, Brush Ridge.

Visitations will be held on Friday, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the funeral home.
