Jimmy Lee Hinkle

July 9, 1940 — January 31, 2026

Upper Sandusky

Jimmy L. Hinkle passed away on Saturday, January 31, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center where he had resided the last 3 years due to dementia.

He was born July 9, 1940, in New Carlisle, Ohio, to William Franklin and Alice Pauline (Dalton) Hinkle. He spent most of his childhood in West Liberty, where he graduated from West Liberty High in 1959. Jim married Janet Sue Armstrong on July 14, 1963, at Byhalia Methodist Church, and she passed away on July 17, 2017.

Jim had already started his career being a TV repairman which led him to Gier TV in Upper Sandusky. Jim had a fascination for all things mechanical and had a knack for fixing almost anything. Some of Jim’s favorite things were antique radios and clocks. Jim was known for taking apart his first clock at 9 years old. He was busy as a child taking apart many of his toys. Jim had a lifelong love of trains and loved riding motorcycles with Sue and his friends. He was good at woodworking and built all his kitchen cabinets. Jim was well known locally for his beautiful, tenor voice. Over the years he sang at many church/holiday events, weddings and funerals. Music was Jim’s happy place, and he loved all music from rock and roll to bluegrass and old-time gospel. The staff at the County Home knew that music always made a bad day much better for Jim.

Jim is survived by his 3 daughters, Shawn (Chuck) Pahl, Lisa (Bob) Clements, and Laura (Scott) Morris. Along with 6 grandchildren: Lana (Miles) Weaver, Candace (Dan) Griffith, Zachary Korde Hinkle, Eden, Hope and Noah Morris. Jim also had 4 great grandchildren Harrison and Weston Terrill, and Lyla and Logan Griffith.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his sister Janet Devine.

There will be no services at the request of Jim himself.
