Jerry Thiel, age 83, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 2:00PM at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

Jerry was born on April 5, 1927 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to Gilbert J. and Gertrude (Burks) Thiel, both of whom are deceased. He married Norma Quail on March 30, 1948 in the rectory of former St. Peter's in Upper Sandusky and she survives.

Also surviving are 4 children, Connie Denman of Marion, Doug "Stephan" (Brenda) Thiel of Upper Sandusky, Theresa (Stephen) Kahler of Kenton and Donna (Gregg) Leeth of Upper Sandusky. 10 Grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild survive. He is also survived by a sister Madelyn Bixler of Lakeland, Florida.

He was preceded in death by a sister Martha Jane Kalb and a son in law, Michael Denman.

Jerry was the former owner and operator of Jerry Thiel Painting, having started the business in 1952 and retiring officially in 1998. He worked alongside his son for many years and he continues the family business today.

He was a member of the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky. A member of the Amvets #777, American Legion Post # 225, Moose Lodge # 1093 and a life member of the K of C, all in Upper Sandusky. Jerry was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army and was a graduate of Upper Sandusky High School in 1947 and then went on to College in Tiffin. For hobbies Jerry enjoyed traveling with his wife, having driven to all 48 of the continental states, going to casinos, watching the Browns and especially the Cavaliers, fishing and spending time with his family.

Public visitations for Jerry will be held on Thursday, January 13, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

Private graveside services will be held on Friday with the Rev. Jim Stauffer officiating with the burial taking place at Rowland Cemetery in rural Upper Sandusky.
