Alma Jean Hensel, age 85 formally of Upper Sandusky, and Waldo, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at 10:15pm at the Brookdale Lakeview Crossing Assisted Living and Memory Care in Groveport, Ohio.

Jean was born on February 2, 1938 in Marseilles, Ohio, to Walter W. and Nancy Ellen (Hughes) Whittaker.  She was married to Ujah Hensel.

She is survived by her 2 children, Brad Hensel of Marseilles and Jo Hensel and her husband Brian Auld of Canal Winchester, Ohio.  Six grandchildren, Rachel (Tim) Major, Stephanie (Luke) Warner, Aaron, Lexi, Caiti & Tori Auld and 5 great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Walter Whittaker Jr., Kenneth Whittaker, Robert Whittaker and 4 sisters, Anna Imbody, Clara Drake, Nancy Baker, and Irene Ferguson. Jean was a 1956 graduate of Marseilles High School then attended The Ohio State University and received a BS in Nursing.  She was a nurse for many years having worked at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Wyandot County Home Health Department, various nursing homes and retiring from Marion Correctional Institution.

She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader, belonged to the Eastern Star, played basketball in the OSU Nurses League, belonged to the Creators Guild of Marion, was an usher for CAPA.  She loved to read and encouraged her children and grandchildren.  She was an avid sports fan especially OSU and the Cincinnati Reds.  She enjoyed attending her grandkids games and performances, and taking them to parks and museums.

Funeral services for Jean Hensel will be held at 11:00am Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Pastor Steve Sturgeon officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak HIll Cemetery.

Visitations for Jean will be held on Thursday, January 4, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Sandusky Community Library and the Marseilles Park, and can be sent to Lucas Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
