Emma Jean Gillen of Upper Sandusky, Ohio died February 1, 2008 at her home after a long battle with heart disease. She was born June 29, 1927 in Forest, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Alice Jaqueth Wyss. Jean graduated from Forest High School in the class of 1945. She was married to Bill Gillen in Upper Sandusky by Father William J. McKeown at St. Peters Catholic Church on January 16, 1946 and he survives. She is also survived by three children - Patricia Jane Gillen of Columbus - Edward A. Gillen of Noblesville, Indiana and William T. Gillen Jr. of Upper Sandusky and Five Grandchildren - Matt Gillen, Amy Heim of Indianapolis, and Samuel Gillen, Maggie Gillen of Tucson, Arizona, Amanda Thiel, Columbus, Ohio and a Great Grand Daughter Hannah Bussey of Columbus. She was preceded in death by a grand daughter Sarah Gillen, a sister Dorothy Shafer and a brother Herschel Wyss.
She was a member of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky since 1946. Jean resided in Wyandot County for most of her life and worked as a secretary and accountant in her and her husbands businesses for over twenty five years.
She was active in travel clubs and Mothers Clubs. Jean served on several election boards and enjoyed bowling and golfing. For many years she enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States. She was an avid reader of the bible and travel and history novels along with being a game and puzzle fan and card playing enthusiast.
Jean was a private person, a very proud mother and home maker she especially loved her family and faith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, February 5 at The Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church with Father Kent Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitations will be held on Monday, February 4, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. A scripture service will follow visitations at 8:00pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic School or Heartland Home Healthcare and Hospice and may be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH, 43351
