Jane Bowen

R. Jane Bowen, age 94, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at her home in Upper Sandusky.

Jane was born on May 25, 1932 in Jackson Township, Wyandot County, Ohio, to Richard Jr. and Ruah (Parsell) Walter, both of whom are deceased. She married Roger A. Bowen on September 27, 1953 at the Marseilles Methodist Church, and he passed away on February 10, 2024.

She is survived by her daughters, Deb (Bill) Sturgeon of Upper Sandusky, and Trudy Wait of Granger, Indiana. 4 grandchildren, Jason (Jody) Sturgeon, Lesley (Dan) Hayman, Alex (Katie) Takeuchi-Wait, and Adam Wait, 6 great grandchildren, Teddy Wait, Jordan Takeuchi-Wait, Hannah (Grant) Stahl,

Audrey Sturgeon, Lydia Sturgeon, and Malana Sturgeon.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Paul and Glenn “Pete” Walter, and sisters, Helen Everhart – Rossman, and Evelyn Smith.

She was a homemaker and also assisted her husband in the office with Bowen Implement for many years, and in later years, with Kustom Karts. She also had worked for the former Eagle Nest Hatchery, and BC & G Weithman Construction.

Jane was a graduate of Marseilles High School Class of 1950, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.

She was a member of the John Stewart Methodist Church, having helped with many funeral dinners throughout the years.

Jane enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress. She, along with her sister Evelyn, co-owned E J’s Alterations. Jane made many outfits for family and friends.

She also enjoyed embroidery, writing poetry, along with watching Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. She was known to make the best applesauce, and apple dumplings. Throughout the years, Jane and Roger enjoyed their time at Lake Erie in the summer, and their winters in Florida.

Graveside services for Jane Bowen will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Kenneth Wessler officiating.

Celebration of Life Gathering for Jane will be held on Sunday, November 8, at Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, with a service to be held at 5:00pm.
