James Worthington

James Worthington, 89, of Upper Sandusky, died at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Upper Sandusky.

He was born in Williamson,WV on March 12, 1923 to the late William and Edna (Conley) Worthington. He married Alene Rice on September 6, 1946 in Greenup, KY. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2007.

Surviving are his son, James "Randy" (Terri) Worthington of Plainfield, IN, grandson, James "Michael" Worthington, and a half sister, Alene Wilkins of Elkhorn City, KY.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings.

James retired from the former Claycraft Corporation in Upper Sandusky, where he was a frontend loader operator.

A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he was an anti-aircraft gunner, serving from June 1941 to September 1945. He fought in seven major campaigns: North Africa, Sicily, southern France, Italy, and the Rhineland. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, AMVETS 777 and American Legion 225 all of Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.

The funeral service will be Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Stumbo officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky with military graveside rites conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Vietnam Traveling Wall Foundation in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave, Upper Sandusky, OH. 43351.
