James E. Starner, age 80, formerly of Bucyrus, Ohio passed
away Thursday April 7, 2011 at 5:00am at the Hospice Kobacker House of Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Jim was born on July 25, 1930 in Wyandot County, Ohio to Robert and Dorothy (Beamer) Starner both of whom are deceased. He married Helen I. (Hogan) Starner on December 10, 1961 in Bucyrus, who passed away on February 2, 2003.
Jim and Helen are survived by three sons, Jim (Judy) Welch of Parrotsville, Tennessee, Kim (Tamara) Swartz of Crestline, Ohio, Jerry (Lyne) Starner of Amanda, Ohio, and a daughter, Jacquie Kibler of Urbana, Ohio, six grandchildren, Angie Streeter, Shane Kibler, Luke & Allie Starner, Weldon Swartz, and, Lynn Houts, five great grandchildren, Trey Kibler, Hannah & Shelby Chatlin Cameron Streeter, and Billy Houts.
Jim is also survived by sisters, Annie Gradish of Amherst, Ohio and Marge (Bill) Cardwell of Marion, Ohio and a brother, Tom (Barb) Starner of Bucyrus, Ohio.
Jim was a 1948 graduate of the Harpster High School and went on to serve our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Jim was an employee of the Timken Co. in Bucyrus for 37 years and owned and operated
J & H Shooting Supply in Bucyrus for 35 years.
Jim was a former member of the American Legion Post # 181 in Bucyrus, state Legion trapshooting treasurer, a lifetime member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) where he was a runner-up in the Grand American Trapshooting Contest in 1978, and a manager of the former Liberty Gun Club outside Bucyrus. His other hobbies included euchre, reading, watching Ohio sporting events and spending time with his family. Jim was a dedicated husband and caretaker of his wife for many years.
Funeral services for James Starner will be held at 1:00pm Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Tom Starner officiating the services. Burial will follow at the Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Visitations will be held 2 hours prior to service time, 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Kobacker House at Riverside Hospital or the American Legion in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
