James S. "Scotty" Smalley

James S. "Scotty" Smalley, age 86, of Nevada, Ohio died November 22, 2008 at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

He was born on September 25, 1922 to James Monroe and Eva Pearl (Larick) Smalley, both of whom are deceased. He then married Phyllis L. (Adams) on September 5, 1942 in Cardington, Ohio and she died on December 25, 1982.

He graduated from Nevada High School in 1940 and later joined the Army having served in WWII in the 3rd Army. After the service he was a plasterer having worked for J & B Plastering in Mansfield and other companies where he retired in the early 80's.

He is survived by two sons: J. Michael (Jean) Smalley of Southfield, MI, and Jonathan (Cathy) Smalley of Ada, Ohio. Also surviving are four grandchildren: James Smalley, Jason Smalley, Scott Smalley, and Jenise Vaughn, and one step great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three brothers: James Smalley who died in infancy and Byron and Myron Smalley, and a sister: Ruby Dicks.

Funeral services for James S. Smalley will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 1:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada, Ohio. The Rev. Robert Hamilton will be officiating the services. Burial will follow at the Nevada cemetery in Nevada, Ohio with full military graveside services will be conducted by the various service organization in Upper Sandusky.

Friends may come to call on Tuesday, November 25 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Nevada and also 1 hour before funeral services on Wednesday.
