James Nelson Penwell Sr., 64, of McCutchenville, OH died at 11:30 pm Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.
James was born on August 19, 1943 in Bainbridge, Ohio to Nelson Penwell, who is deceased, and Helen (Lansing) Penwell, who survives in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He was first married to Marilyn Betz and they had 3 sons: Harold Penwell of Carey; Donnie Penwell of San Antonio, Texas; Jeff Penwell of Arlington, OH. He then married Connie Montgomery and they have 2 sons: James N. Penwell Jr. of Upper Sandusky and Rickie Penwell of Kenton, Ohio; 15 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren survive. Also surviving are 6 sisters: Frances Savidge of Arizona; June Myers of Upper Sandusky; Alice Burton of Dunkirk; Mary Ellen Powell of Mt. Blanchard; Diane Beltz of Forest; Beatrice Mardis of Upper Sandusky. Also a brother Lloyd Penwell of Nevada survives. James was preceded in death by 1 great grandson Travis Hoel and a sister Grace Swiles.
James attended Wharton School. He was laborer having worked for Kenneth Richardson and Emory Walton. For hobbies, James enjoyed working on automobile engines, building birdhouses, doing anything outside such as landscaping, flower gardening and fishing.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday September 30, 2007 at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Saturday, September 29 also at the funeral home in Upper Sandusky. Memorials may be made to the Donor's Choice and can be sent to Lucas Batton Funeral Home 476 So. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
