James "Jim" F. Starner

James "Jim" F. Starner, age 91, of rural Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Carlisle House in Bucyrus.

Jim was born on August 13, 1925 in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Monta and Ethel (Spangler) Starner, both of whom are deceased.  He married Mary Ann Noblet on September 9, 1949 and she survives.

He is also survived by two children: Thomas (Paula) Starner of Bucyrus, Cathy (William) Brunskill of Columbus.  Three grandchildren: Chad (Holly) Starner, Brett (Jessica) Starner, Erin (Matthew) Weber, along with five great grandsons, Nicholas, Blake, and Lyman Starner, Carter and Lane Weber. He is also survived by a sister Margaret Starner of Bucyrus.

Jim retired Timken Co. after 31 years of service.  Before that he had worked for the New York Central Railroad as a brakeman and conductor.

He was a veteran of World War II having served with the Army Air Corps, the 490th Bomb Group as a tail gunner of the B-17 Flying Fortress.  Jim was the last one living out of his bomber crew, and was awarded the American Theater, EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 battle stars, the Air Medal with 3 OLC.

He was a member for over 50 years of the Bucyrus Masonic Lodge #139 F&AM.  A 70 year member of the American Legion Post 181 in Bucyrus.

For hobbies Jim enjoyed wood working of all types, if fact he made many wooden apple butter stirrers for the Picking & Company in Bucyrus, where he also gave many tours.

Graveside services for James F. Starner will be held at 11:00am September 6, 2016 at the Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, Ohio where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Bucyrus American Legion Post 181.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 401 S. Main St. Nevada, Ohio  44849.
