James "Jim" E. Heinlen

James "Jim" E. Heinlen, age 76, of rural Nevada, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Altercare of Bucyrus.

He was born on August 22, 1947 in Mansfield, Ohio.  His parents were Otto and Helen (Sponseller) Heinlen, both of whom are deceased.  He married Patricia Willett on March 12, 1966 and she survives.

Jim is survived by 3 children: Doug (Amie) Heinlen of Bucyrus, Kim (Gilbert) Perez of Lewis Center, and Mark (Bobbie-Jo) Heinlen of Marion.  8 grandchildren: Katie (Wes) Dennison, Meghan Heinlen, Kyle (Katie) Heinlen, Kayleigh (Chris) Kinnamon, Dylan Perez, Drew (Ashley) Lowry, Jordan (Kassy) Eaton, and Emi Heinlen, along with 9 great grandchildren, and a sister, Jane Mahl of Norwalk.

He was a 1965 graduate of Wynford High School and went on to work and retire from Ohio Department of Corrections.  He was raised on the farm and always had a love for farming.

Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and became an active member of Wayside Chapel in Bucyrus, where he led and sang in the choir.  He also was a life member of the NRA.

Jim also enjoyed coaching basketball, hunting, watching westerns, especially John Wayne movies, and was known to have a sweet tooth, especially desserts.

Funeral services for Jim Heinlen will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the Wayside Chapel with Pastor Jerrill Wyler, and Pastor David Blaser officiating.  Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held 2 hours before service time, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Christian School and can be sent to Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
