James Richard "Dick" Courtad

James Richard "Dick" Courtad, age 82, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio passed away surrounded by family and friends on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 1:37 p.m. at the Inn at Westbrook in Upper Sandusky, after a 2 year battle with Alzheimer's.

He was born on October 22, 1927 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to
William Adrian and Ruth (Fernbaugh) Courtad, both of whom are
deceased. He married Wanda Marie Beamer on October 22, 1949, in Upper Sandusky by Rev. Norman Folk, and she survives. Jim and Wanda just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Also surviving are 2 sons, James A. (Lorraine) Courtad of Upper Sandusky and Jeffrey R. (Wendy) Courtad of Upper Sandusky, along with 4 daughters, Diane M. Pfeifer of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Patricia A. (Dan) Gregg of Sycamore, Ramona L. "Mony" (Curt)
Stansberry of Upper Sandusky, Lisa J. (Terry) Ousley of Ashland, Ohio. 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

James is also survived by 2 sisters, Ruth (Norman) Folk and Marilyn Spitler, both of Upper Sandusky and a sister in law, Jane Courtad, also of Upper Sandusky.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Merle T. Courtad.

Jim worked for the Marathon Oil Company in Findlay, Ohio
retiring in 1986 after 28 years and also farmed. Before he worked at Marathon, Jim also was a hod carrier for a masonry contractor for 14 years.

He was a life member of the former Rock Run Church of God in Upper Sandusky, where he was the song leader and superintendent of the church.

Jim was a graduate of Upper Sandusky High School in 1945, where he was a baritone in the band and later after high school he
played in the Wyandot County Band. He was a veteran, having
served in the US Army Reserves.

For hobbies, Jim enjoyed fishing, golfing and hunting and playing softball in his younger years, traveling and sitting on the front
porch with Wanda. He was a former Boy Scout Master and former member of the Wyandot Classic and Cruiser Car Club in Upper Sandusky and also played golf with the Wednesday morning Silver League at Lincoln Hills.

Above all Jim enjoyed spending his time with his wife Wanda and his children and grandchildren.
