James E. Armstrong, age 81, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, went home to live with Jesus on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 3:53am at his home in Upper Sandusky.
Jim was born on May 12, 1941 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Everett and Carrie (Boggs) Armstrong, both of whom are deceased. He was first married to Loretta Lee Sprouse, and then married Francis Walton Haner, both of whom are deceased.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Armstrong of Columbus, Katharine (Dan) Studer of San Francisco, California, and David "Tony" Armstrong of Bucyrus. Grandchildren, Jason Spiegel, Josh Adams, Zachary Spiegel, Jordan Armstrong, Cody Armstrong, Maccie Armstrong, and great grandchildren, Mira, Madison, Waylon, Mollie, Wyatt, Hannah, Hailey, Heather, Logan, Leah, Ellie, Waylon, Jameson, Callie, Peyton, Alekhy, Gavin, Fayth, Devon, Molly and Sophia, and a brother, George (Sherry) Armstrong of Wheelersburg, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Steven Armstrong, 2 grandchildren, Ashley Kristina and Joseph Allen, and siblings Homer Armstrong, Edna Abbott, Eileen Howell, Shirley Armstrong, Marietta (Ret) Muncey, Huey Cogan, Robert Armstrong, David Armstrong, Juanita Easter, Jean Godair, Karl Armstrong, and Jode Armstrong.
Jim attended Wheelersburg High School and went on to serve his country in the US Army as a paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne.
Jim worked for Tecumseh in Marion for 17 years, and then worked for18 years for Mills Metal in Upper Sandusky. After retirement, he also worked for the Wyandot Council on Aging in Upper Sandusky.
He was a member of the Upper Sandusky Nazarene Church, where he was active with the Saturday morning men's group. He was also a member of Amvets #777, where he served as past commander for 7 years, American Legion 225, and a 50 year member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge #343 F&AM.
For hobbies Jim enjoyed gardening, eagle watching where he was always on search for eagle nests in trees, hunting and fishing, feeding the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks, and coon hunting in his younger years, cooking and baking, and story telling of the years gone by.
Jim was the happiest when he was with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral service for James Armstrong will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 1, 2022 at the Upper Sandusky Nazarene Church, 845 Marseilles Ave., Upper Sandusky, with Pastor Eric Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, November 30, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Upper Sandusky Nazarene Church.
