Howard Dean Waggy, age 89, of Harpster, Ohio, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 4:26 am at his home in Harpster.
Dean was born on February 23, 1936, in Wyandot County, Ohio, to Howard D. and Oakie Mae (Moore) Waggy, both of whom are deceased. He married Mary Jane Haner on June 15, 1957, at the Harpster United Methodist Church, and she passed away on December 7, 2012.
He is survived by his 3 children: Steve (Corrina) Waggy of Upper Sandusky, Suzi (Jim) Severns of Wharton, and Jodi (Scotty) Robinson of Harpster. 9 grandchildren: Nick (Kelly) Waggy, Dylan (Stephanie) Waggy, Steven (Z) Kincade, Zachary (Laura) Kincade, and Tyler Kincade, Chris Severns, and Hunter ( Lauren) Severns, and Cameron (Jamie) Crawford, and Cole (Bria) Crawford, along with 9 great grandchildren, Greyson Dean, Holden, Koltin Howard, Lukas, Eliza, Owen, Hadley and Elijah.
Dean is also survived by a sister, Linda (Bill) Swartz of Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gail Waggy, and 2 sisters, June Brewer, Beulah Miller
Dean was a 1954 graduate of Harpster High School, and shortly after his marriage to Mary Jane, he served his country in the US Army and then upon discharge, he continued his service in the Army National Guard.
Dean worked for 28 years at Whirpool in Marion, and he also started Waggy Construction in Upper Sandusky,working both jobs for many years..
He as a long time member of the Harpster Methodist Church and also served for 12 years on the Harpster Village Council and the Pitt Township Fire Department.
For hobbies Dean enjoyed fishing, bird watching, working outside around the house, and tending to his flowers, antiquing and traveling to Florida with his wife. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and attending various events of his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services for Howard Dean Waggy will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 28, at the Harpster United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Sturgeon officiating. Burial will follow at Little Sandusky Cemetery, where military graveside rites to be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard.
Visitations will be on Thursday, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and 1 hour before service time at the church on Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Harpster Church, the Diabetes Association, Wounded Warriors, or St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, and can be sent to Lucas Batton, 476 S Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
