Herbert Hale

Herbert S. Hale, age 91, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 7:03 am at the Wyandot County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Upper Sandusky.

Herb was born on October 24, 1932, in Upper Sandusky, to Lloyd S. and Ida Lillie (Stevenson) Hale, both of whom are deceased.  He married Betty Sue Pratt on April 27, 1957, and she passed away on October 28, 1994.

He is survived by a son: Hank (Sherry) Hale of Auburn Hills, Michigan, and a daughter, Barbara Hale of Puyallup, Washington, along with a step-grandson, Brian Bachnak.

Herb is also survived by 2 sisters, Alice Crabs of Rocky River, Ohio, and Sue Chase of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, James Hale, and a sister Miriam Schick.

Herb was a 1950 graduate from Upper Sandusky High School.  After graduating from school, he started his career as a truck driver running a milk route to area farms in Marion and Morrow counties. After a couple of years of driving, Herb was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving with the military police. After his honorable discharge from the service, Herb continued driving truck and worked for the Marion Brick Company.  Shortly thereafter, he drove 25 years for Craycraft Trucking Company in Upper Sandusky, then upon their closing, he drove for Brickcraft of Royal Oak, Michigan, and then ended up retiring from Highway Trucking in 2007, at the age of 75.

Herb was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Upper Sandusky.

For hobbies, he enjoyed traveling, having been in 48 states, reading, and doing word search puzzles.

Graveside services for Herb Hale will be held at 11:00am, October 1, 2024, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Ken Wessler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activities Fund, or the 1st Presbyterian Church, and can be sent to Lucas Batton, 476 S Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
