Helen Louise Gier

Helen Louise Gier, age 89, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio died March 5, 2008 at 7:28 a.m at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

She was born on September 5, 1918 in Mifflin Township, Wyandot County to Karl and Charlotte (Pfeifer) Koehler, both of whom are deceased. She then married Gerald Gier on October 2, 1939 at the Bethany Lutheran Parsonage in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Gerald died on June 24, 2001.

Surviving is one son, R. Jerry and his wife Sara, Gier of Upper Sandusky, and a daughter, Barbara S. Gier of Glouster, Ohio. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren Jeffrey Gier of De Leon Springs, Florida, Scott Gier and Jamie Gier both of Upper Sandusky. 7 great grandchildren, Kelsey, Ashley, Sara, Samuel Hannah, Jacob and Olivia Gier also survive.

Helen was also preceded in death by one brother, Ivan Koehler.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky for over 50 years. She also was a volunteer at Wyandot Memorial Hospital Guild for many years. For hobbies Helen enjoyed traveling to such places as Hawaii, Alaska and Europe, and spending time in Florida. She also enjoyed boating and fishing at Lake Erie, playing cards with various card groups and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 10:30am at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Henry Seibert officiating the service. Burial will be at the Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 7 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
